Blood Donor Requirement

Blood donor is required by every patient who need additional blood because of shortage of blood inside the body. The shortage of blood inside of somebody can because of injure or because of diseases. Severe injure can make people die if blood shortage can’t be overcome as soon as possible. After the blood requirement can be fulfil, victim can recover their wound and back to normal. Whether shortage of blood because of certain disease, can’t be overcome in a simple way. First he/she must be cured from the causes beside must give any additional blood into the body.

Blood donor should be fulfil a certain condition, that currently more strict year by year because of many diseases can make problem to the blood recipient. Following below are the major reasons given for exclusion, most still in force in Blood banks, Blood donor clinics and hospitals, today.

In 1980s, the blood donor must don’t have this:
  • Cancer
  • AIDS Symptoms
  • Hypodermic drug use
  • Men having had sexual contact of any kind with another man or men since 1977.
In 1990s, the blood donor must don’t have this, beside the above diseases:
  • Anyone who has had hepatitis since his or her 11th birthday
  • Anyone who has taken pituitary growth hormone in any quantity.
In 2000 to the present, in addition to all of the above:
  • Anyone who has taken Tegison for psoriasis
  • Anyone currently with drugs for an enlarged prostate in their system
  • Anyone who spent three months or more in the United Kingdom from 1980 through 1986
  • Anyone who has received Blood by transfusion in the United Kingdom or France from 1980 through the present
  • Anyone who has spent five years in Europe from 1980 through the present time.
  • Anyone who has self-administered non-prescription drugs intravenously
  • Anyone who is not 17 years old and 110 pounds in weight or more.

Blood Donation Registration

How to donate blood and what is actually the requisition of blood donation will describe on the below. Before you accept as blood donor you must fulfill the following requirements:
  • Minimum weight should be 110 pound or about 50 kg and at least you have 16 years old and health in general. - For the first time of blood donor must fill form.
  • You should inform to the blood bank at the time about particular health concern and if you have travelled to outside country.
  • Completed a donor registration form.
  • On pre donation screening, blood bank will ask you about your health, lifestyle and disease risk factors.
  • Perform a short health exam, taking your pulse, temperature and blood pressure
  • A drop of blood from finger also be tested to ensure the iron level is sufficient to be blood donor.
After the above process have completed and the requirement already fulfil then a blood bank person will start to take your blood.

Blood Donor in Fasting Season

Fasting should not preclude a person to donate blood. Provided that the body in good health and do in a right time, to donate blood will not make the body become limp.

During the fasting seaoson, usually a decrease in the amount of blood supply to 50 percent of daily about 800-1000 bags per day normally.

"Doing the blood donor is basically not invalidate of fast. But in another perspective blood donors mentioned can lead to dehydration," said dr.Robby Nur Aditya, Section Head of Donor Blood and Information Unit, Red Cross Indonesia, interrupted blood donor event held by Tupperware in Plaza Semanggi Jakarta, Friday (13/7).

To prevent dehydration, can actually be tricked by blood donors ahead of the opening hours of fasting or after the meal.

"Do not forget to take in enough fluids before the donor," he added.
Those who might donate is the person over the age of 17 years, healthy-bodied, have a minimum of 45 pounds of body weight, blood pressure of at least 100/60, as well as hemoglobin levels from 12.5 to 17.

Blood Donor

As clever as human, still don’t able to build a blood. If a patient lessen of blood or anemia on our body we need blood transfusion, this blood is get from many volunteer who give their blood. This blood then will process first using a process called as fractionation. This blood volunteer more found in developed countries, in under developing country and poor country we difficult to find a blood volunteer, why? This is because of rare of established supplies are limited and donor just give blood when the family or friends need a transfusion.

Blood donation also must fulfill the certain condition, should no contaminated with certain diseases like HIV and Viral Hepatitis. Beside some blood test, the donor also will ask about the medical history and given a short physical examination for sure that the donation have no risk to others.

The amount of blood will taken from blood donor for about 500 milliliters of whole blood. The tool to take out this blood can by manual tools or by automated equipment that only takes for specific portion of blood. The donor can give their blood every routine period, this is vary from several days to months that depend on the donate condition or country laws where the donation takes place.
